Ex Newcastle Player Cheick Tiote Dies After Collapsing In Training
Former Former Newcastle United and Ivory Coast midfielder Cheick Tiote has died at the age 39, after collapsing in training. The defensive midfielder who made over 150 appearances in the seven years he spent at Newcastle signed for Chinese second-tier side Beijing Enterprise in February this year.
"It is with deep sadness I confirm that Cheick Tiote sadly passed away earlier today after collapsing in training," said spokesman Emanuele Palladino.
"We cannot say any more at the moment and we request that his family's privacy be respected at this difficult time. We ask for all your prayers."
Tiote started his professional career at Belgium heavyweight Anderlecht, before signing for Dutch giant fc twente where he won the eredivisie title in 2009. He then completed a £3.5m move to Newcastle in 2010.
