Rooney becomes Manchester United all time top scorer

Wayne Rooney scored his 250th goal for Manchester united against stoke city today, the goal saw him surpass Sir Bobby Charlton as the club all time top scorer. The record breaking goal also helped Man utd salvage a point from a feisty encounter against Stoke city.



Wayne Rooney 31, scored in the 94th minute of the match Britannia Stadium through a stunning free kick, to level the tie as Manchester united where heading for a defeat.
 It took Rooney just 546 matches to achieve the feat, while Bobby Charlton needed approximately 758 appearances to reach 249 tally.

Wayne Rooney had also usurped Bobby Charlton as a record holder, having also surpassed the world cup winner, as England all time top scorer. As he (Rooney) currently have 53 goals to Charlton 49.




Speaking to BBC sport after the game Rooney was quoted as saying that ''it's an honour am proud,'' its difficult at the moment to be happy because of the result. its two points dropped but, in the grand scheme of things, it's a huge honour for me. It's is something i never expected when i joined the club i am delighted and i am very proud. 
''It's been a great and successful journey, and there is lot more to come.''
